First let me start off by hoping everyone has a wonderful father's day. Whether you are planning something special or just a phone call, show some true appreciation to that old man of yours. Onward to the article:
If I had the time or effort, i would personally walk onto Michigan State's Campus and look for Coach Tom Izzo, shake his hand and thank him for not making the step towards the NBA and to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
There truely isnt enough coaches that have longevity when it comes to staying in one spot. There is always a cliche "glass ceiling" for all coaches where you can't do anymore. I just don't see it happening at MSU for Izzo.
When Izzo talked at his press conference, he talked about staying at MSU meant a "lifetime deal". I think there needs to be more coaches not only in college basketball, but football as well.
Coach K, Bobby Bowden, Joe Paterno, the list can go on and on.
As much as the Cavs were offering (double the money per year and possibly the best player in the league), there was too much to risk.
1) Lebron James may not be there. Could you imagine being in his shoes gettng ready for next season and fine out the possible #1 player in the league opts out of Ohio and onto another team? There would be a lot of pressure on the Cavs and Izzo to perform greatly and show that winning is not impossible.
2) There is a much better chance in the long run for titles NCAA-wise than NBA-wise. Izzo has come very close two years in a row, and with him staying in East Lansing really shows how much Izzo loves MSU. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised to see him and the Spartans cutting down some nets within the next few years.
As for Cavalier fans, there is no plan B for this situation. Until then...Len Komoroski will have to pull all the stunts to lure another possible big name to coach next year, as well as please the King enough for his to wear that Cavalier Jersey and not (insert NBA team name here).
